Minutes: BOD (Board of Directors) meeting January 2, 2008 (Wednesday).

The meeting was called to order by President Steakley at 1102.

Present: Shipmates Alvarez, Brady, Garrett, Moore, Phillips, Reid, Simms, Steakley, associate member
rep Errington and canteen manager Moran.

Absent: Shipmates: Clark

Recommendations: None.

Discussion:

1.        Shipmate Tom Mishenko is new BOD member to round out BOD to six members. BOD concurs with
replacement.
2.        Stage area (old pig pen): contractor recommends tearing down and starting anew. Existing pig
pen will not support a foundation for a stage.
3.        Shipmate President Steakley completed LOAs for the LAFRA and Santa for the very successful
children’s Christmas party. Estimated over 500 attended.
4.        Heads up on a possible funeral ceremony for a local veteran (82yo) who was not an FRA member
but deserves veteran recognition.
5.        President Steakley attended the Mayor’s New Year’s Ball and received a Letter of Appreciation for
FRA367s efforts to support malnourished children.
6.        FRA367 Curry Cook-off Team is on track. P4000 given to Simms to cover expenses (entry fee
P2000 plus ingredients). P2000 given by Simms to Moran to reimburse entry fee.
7.        VFW 11447 Beach Bash Feb 14, 15, 16, 2008.
8.        FRAlics:
a.        Proposed dates: April 4, 5, 6, 2008 but still needs looked at before firming up (confirm school
dates, etc.).
b.        Need a volunteer committee.
c.        FRAlics announcement letter is on the web site (www.fra367.org) and State-side letters ready to
go out soon.
d.        Phillips has a proposal for a FRAlics golf tournament he will present: need good prizes to
compensate for the high entry fees; also need good sponsors.
e.        Planning on horseshoes, darts, pool, . . .
f.        Possible FRAlics chili cook-off
g.        FRAlics meeting Jan 9, 2008 at the VFW after the VFW meeting
9.        Shipmate Mishenko volunteered to be a BOD member and to honcho the wall ads project if no
one else will do.
10.        New DVD player purchased with canteen money (P1500) and outside lighting (P1100) also funded
by canteen.
11.        Outdoor broken concrete was broken up
12.        Pig pen needs cleaned up before deciding what to do next with the area. Workers on track to
begin soon.
13.        Discussed an outdoor CR in the east 40 (chili cook-off area).
14.        Liability insurance for employees is P266 per employee per year. Still need answer on customer
liability insurance. Canteen will pay canteen staff liability insurance and LAFRA to pay for kitchen staff.
15.        Horse shoes at the Branch Home on Saturday, Jan 5, 2008. VFW 11447 is the opponent and
Bloody Mary rules will be in effect.
16.        Portable barbeque: nothing yet but will look in Angeles City when there for the Aussie Day Curry
Cook-off.
17.        Alvarez suggested a veteran’s organization (FRA, VFW, American Legion) children’s Easter egg
hunt. He will investigate.
18.        Moran: canteen may have to increase prices in Feb/Mar.
19.        Moran: RSL raffle tickets (Aussie Day) on sale at the bar.
20.        Discussed getting involved in sponsoring Subic RSL meetings at the FRA: P2000/year to
sponsor. Will investigate
21.        Horse shoe team shirts (6 or 7 shirts)
a.        Motion: Phillips; second Alvarez to provide shirts for the FRA horse shoe team. Approved by BOD
unanimously. Moran to pursue shirts for the team after getting sizes.
22.        Shipmate Gross is still in hospital
