Minutes: BOD (Board of Directors) meeting September 3, 2008 (Wednesday).

The meeting was called to order by President Steakley at 1108. Meeting was held outside
due to a loss of power.

Present: Shipmates Brady, Steakley, Simms, Alvarez, Reid, Phillips, Alvarado, Mishenko,
Hazelwood, Associate Member Rep Errington and Ladies Gracey and Moore.

Discussion:
1.        Outdoor Bahay Kubo (coogan grass roof to provide better shade and protection
from rain in the horse shoe bar area) construction progressing well. Should be finished
by Saturday Sep 6, 2008.
2.        Horse shoes: FRA367 won the last horse shoe match.
3.        Youth dart tournament: former vice-mayor Butch Echivere is honchoing with
assistance from LAFRA (provide food and drinks for the kids) and FRA (providing the
venue and on-site assistance as needed).
4.        Motion: Alvarez, Second Reid and Mishenko to sponsor the top two youth dart
players to Manila for the Philippines youth dart championship and to fund the award
certificates. Price not to exceed P10,000.00 with P6000 to actually fund the transportation
to Manila, food and board. Carried unanimously.
5.        Bingo: LAFRA honchoing bingo once a month on Saturday and discussion of the
next ball room dancing event in December 2008.
6.        Navy birthday celebration will be at the VFW 11447 on October 13, 2008. All
shipmates and ladies encouraged to attend.
7.        USMC birthday celebration at the branch home on November 10, 2008.
8.        Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2008: intend to hold a Subic area Veteran’s Day
commemoration possibly at the Hell Ship’s Memorial on SBMA. In the past, FRA367 has
participated in Veteran’s Day commemorations at the veteran’s cemetery on the former
Clark Air Force base in Angeles City.
9.        Pearl Harbor Day December 7, 2008: FRA 367 may do a Two-bell ceremony at the
Hell Ship Memorial on SBMA.
10.        FRA belt buckles: Shipmate Steakley to investigate having belt buckles made in
the local area for sale to interested shipmates.
11.        Comments and suggestion box is now mounted at the main entrance to the
branch home. Constructive kitchen or canteen criticism is welcome. Please write your
name and sign so more information can be sought if needed.
12.        Motion Mishenko second Brady to reimburse the canteen for P3200.00 (P1100
each for wreaths for Shipmate Demorse and Mayor’s wife Dra Lonzanida plus P1000 for
transportation. Carried unanimously.
13.        Nutrition program discussion: LAFRA estimates approx P5000 per month for 28
malnourished children (two from each of the 14 barrangays).
14.        FRA367 received a $100.00 donation from John Staley (sp?) to be used for the
nutrition program. Thanks John!
15.        Discussion on how to better raise funds for the nutrition program: 50/50, bingo,
raffles, donations, etc. LAFRA to report on Youth Activities at the GMM on September 5,
2008.
16.        Discussion on merging the former high school scholars program with the
nutrition program to better support nutrition. Still no resolution on the money given to
the principal of San Miguel National High School two years ago.
17.        Discussion on the secretary drafting a solicitation letter to local physicians for
financial donations, dietary supplements or on site medical assistance for possible
future medical outreach program.
18.        UF&DB: Youth activities discussion tabled until next month.
19.        Deli status: still not self-supportive but plan to be within six months. Takes time
to be profitable. Loans from the canteen (canteen pays for deli items) are paid back
immediately s not much deli cash is kept on hand.
20.        Business enterprise (licensing the canteen, kitchen and deli):
a.        Accountant hired
b.        Do we need to visit employee contracts?
c.        Discussion on deli employee challenges
d.        Discussion on whether the kitchen needs more help during more popular events
21.        Motion Hazelwood second Mishenko to reimburse the treasurer P15000.00 for
loan to the deli. Carried unanimously.
22.        POW/MIA September 19, 2008 Day American Legion raffle books available for sale.
POW/MIA Day will be commemorated at American Legion Post 4 in Olongapo at 1100, Sep
19, 2008. FRA367to perform a two-bell ceremony.
23.        Discussion on VFW Post 2485 in Angeles City raffle book sales. They are a far
larger organization than FRA367 (160 vs approx 1600 members) and have offered to sell
P10000.00 of our raffle books if we sell P5000.00 of theirs. It seems the ratio should favor
us a bit more.
24.        Discussion on children’s Christmas party at the branch home. We had over 500
last year.
25.        Note: secretary needs to update shipmate Hazelwood’s address.
