Minutes: BOD (Board of Directors) meeting October 1, 2008 (Wednesday).

The meeting was called to order by President Steakley at 1106.
Present: Shipmates Brady, Steakley, Simms, Alvarez, Reid, Phillips, Alvarado, Moore,
Canteen Manager Moran and Ladies Gracey, Brady, Rogers and Steakley.

Discussion:
1.        Received a letter from the Philippine National Police (PNP 315th Provincial
Mobile Group, Castillejos) requesting donations for their Youth Sports Programs.
Motion Phillips, second Alvarez to donate P2000. Unanimously carried.
2.        Discussed recent robbery with local PNP officer. Also discussed the security
agency’s responsibility. “Guard negligence” was PNP’s observation.
3.        Youth dart tournament: FRA367 sponsored youth dart player placed second in a
nation-wide adult dart tournament in Manila!
4.        Need a PAO and a digital camera. Will research to cost of a reasonably priced
digital camera for less than P8000.
5.        233rd Navy Birthday at the VFW11447 on October 13, 2008. Food, live music,
cake-cutting and FRA367 will do a two-bell ceremony.
6.        LAFRA discussed a children’s Halloween party at the FRA367.
7.        233rd USMC birthday celebration at the FRA367 on November 10, 2008, 15—1900
after the RSL golf tornament.
8.        Veteran’s Day November 11, 2008, 1100, at the Hell Ships Memorial on SBMA.
FRA 367 will perform a two-bell and FRA367 associate member rep and past Angeles
City RSL president will M/C the ceremony. We may have several FRA367 members who
can do a two-bell at the Clark cemetery. The consensus is for us to participate in
Veteran’s Day commemorations in the local area vice going to Angeles City to the
Clark cemetery.
9.        VFW Chili cook-off in La Union. Motion Phillips, second Reid to provide P4000
for the entry fee (P2500) and ingredients for the FRA367 chili team. Unanimously
carried. Transportation lodging and other expenses will be covered by the
participants.
10.        Discussed a Thanksgiving Day pot luck like we did last year. Consensus was it
is a good idea.
11.        Motion Alvarez, second Reid to provide P1000 for the secretary’s contingency
fund. Unanimously carried.
12.        LAFRA discussion on the former High School Scholars program. Evidently
some of the money that was stolen over two years ago has been re-couped. We want
to re-start this program but it certainly needs close oversight.
13.        Former Vice Mayor Butch Echiverre and youth dart tournament coordinator:
FRA sponsored young lady won second place in an adult dart tournament in Manila.
She did not have her own darts so a set was loaned to her. After winning second
place she was given a set of darts and a dart board. Well done Camile! Butch also
spoke on the importance of continuing the High School Scholars program. More
discussion needed on this.
14.        Vice president Brady discussed the status of FRA367’s new accountant: no
paperwork from her yet.
15.        Youth activities discussion: want to get all programs back on track starting
January 2009. FRA367 has provided funds for a High School Scholars program and a
nutritional supplement program for mal nourished children but unfortunately some of
the money went missing after we handed it over to the local representative. We need
direct and hands-on oversight in the future. More discussion on how to choose the
most needy. We will certainly need more fund raising activities.
16.        Kitchen discussion:
a.        Low sales lately because of rainy season. Sales should pick up soon as the
rains subside.
b.        Menu needs freshened up
c.        More barbeques would be nice.
d.        A suggestion box has been mounted next to the front door.
e.        Shredded pork barbeque sandwiches would be a nice addition. The recent
addition of home-made corn dogs has been a success.

Meeting was adjourned by President Steakley at 1220.
