Minutes: BOD (Board of Directors) meeting April 29 2009 (Wednesday); this was May’s BOD
meeting.
The meeting was called to order by President Steakley at 1104.
Present: Shipmates Reid, Steakley, Simms, Moore, Phillips, Alvarado, and canteen Manager Moran.
Discussion:
1. Discussed upcoming Installation of Officers which will occur under New Business at the
GMM. Installation officer letter completed.
2. Motion Alvarado, second Reid to provide P1000 for the Secretary’s contingency fund.
Approved with no discussion.
3. Web master turn-over. Shipmate Reid volunteered to take over as the FRA 367 web master.
Current web host is paid through June 7, 2009. Yahoo Site Builder small business is approx $35.00
per quarter. Webmaster will use his own credit card to pay and FRA will re-pay or pay in advance.
Thanks Shipmate Reid! Out-going President Steakley has done a terrific job as the web master.
Thanks Dan!
4. FRA national web site has been overhauled making it more user-friendly.
5. Shipmate Steakley did a great job building a full page magazine ad for FRA367 for the VFW
department convention magazine. The $200 for the ad and the ad were submitted to shipmate
Correll (VFW11447 post commander) today. We look forward to seeing the magazine.
6. Discussion on the youth activities fund and where to go with our youth activities program
7. Shipmate treasurer Moore observed that our bank account is as fat as it has been in a long
time (>$7,000 combined $ and PHP).
8. Discussed project fund-raising as canteen manager Moran did to purchase the LCD TV for
the bar.
9. Incoming president Phillips discussed his plan for each major area (building and
maintenance, youth activities, bar, kitchen, etc.) requiring funding should have a budget. This
way, the BOD and general membership will only have to vote on exceeding the budget for large
expenditures. Discussion on how the bar funds many things outside the realm of the canteen.
Thanks Bill!
10. Youth activities discussion: sponsoring sports teams (darts, baseball, basketball)
discussed. Will be brought up at the next GMM. Will keep supporting our Dart Champion Camile
Flaviano and possibly sponsor her again. Steakley and others to speak with Butch Echivere on
this again at the GMM.
11. Memorial Day commemoration at Clark cemetery will be held on May 30, 2009. FRA367 will
do a modified two-bell ceremony; looking for volunteers to participate.
12. Upcoming potential canteen events: Mother’s Day May 10 and Father’s day in June.
13. LAFRA discussion: the ladies have done good things for the FRA; we need to keep them
engaged.
14. Incoming president Phillips wants to compile a list of significant events for the upcoming
year. In-coming VP Alvarez volunteered to do. Would also like to do a master list of all the local
service organizations (FRA, VFW/cooties, American Legion, and RSL) significant events to
minimize scheduling conflicts.
15. Associate Life Member “Alaska” Bob Perizzo has graciously volunteered to be our
associate member representative. Bob did a great job running the FRAlics chili cook-off AND
running the FRAlics2009 t-shirt enterprise. Thanks Bob!
16. FRA hats: too expensive and too hard to get from the States. Will take one of our better
samples and see if local shirt maker can make.
17. Canteen Manager Moran vacation relief: need a volunteer or a collection of volunteers to
cover for Bill while he is in Thailand. No volunteers so far.
18. FRAlics 2009 shirts: 215 ordered and only five left which were turned over to the canteen
to be sold with the other FRA 367 merchandise.
19. FRAlics lessons-learned-discussion.
20. Deli discussion
21. What happened to the book keeper? She is supposed to pay our BIR taxes and ensure our
employees are covered under PhilHealth and SSS.
22. Discussion on keeping the FRA separate from the business enterprises.
23. Discussed the secretary going to the States for a month; need a temp fill-in.
24. Several side-bar discussions on where to go under our new leadership.
