Minutes: General Membership meeting January 04, 2008
The meeting was called to order by President Steakley at 1108.
Eighteen members (>10%) and 6 associate members in attendance.
Visitors or VIPs of mention: Associate member Van Akkeren “Dutchie” (kid’s Christmas party Santa)
introduced.
CONDUCTED OPENING CEREMONIES.
Shipmate president Steakley announced the new format of the FRA preamble in the most recent Naval
Affairs
The Minutes from the General Membership meeting of November 02, 2007 were accepted as posted.
The BOD minutes will be read under New Business.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Canteen Manager: Bill Moran. Report given. Accepted as read. P10,000 from canteen handed over to
treasurer.
Youth Activities: Shipmate Simms discussed the monies held for malnourished children, Operation
School House, and children’s Christmas party. Malnourished children program still on track with Remy
Lonzanida as the town director. LAFRA will take over these programs over the next several months.
Malnourished kids Christmas party a great success with over 500 children in attendance.
Patriotism & Americanism: Shipmate Koeppen absent.
Hospital & Welfare: Shipmate Alvarez : shipmate Gross still in hospital in Manila. Announced a funeral
ceremony for former shipmate and VFW member Mike Domingo (82yo) on January 5, 2008. Participants
meet at FRA367 at 1300.
Retired Affairs: Shipmate Gross absent (in hospital). Shipmate Garrett: American embassy Outreach will
be on SBMA January 25, 2008.
Public Affairs: Shipmate Wetzel absent. Looking for a volunteer to take over as PAO.
Membership: Shipmate Simms: Active members: 161 in the alpha roster but several new members have
not yet been added and several deceased members are still carried. Shipmate Steakley discussed the
on-going membership drive and the life membership raffle: $10 per square and we have $30 so far; info
on website.
Building and maintenance: Shipmate Brady: concrete maintenance has begun with the breaking up of
the concrete around the outside bar. Contractor recommends the former piggery be torn down and use
the concrete and hollow blocks as fill for possible future stage. Shipmate Phillips announced he will
donate $100 to the construction of a stage. Demolition to begin soon.
Treasurer’s Report: Shipmate Moore. Report given and accepted as read. Treasurer received P10,000
from the canteen.

NEW BUSINESS:
1. BOD minutes read and discussed
a. Shipmate Steakley announced the FRAlics solicitation letters for our Stateside members will be
sent out soon.
b. Shipmate Sullivan announced he will donate plants to beautify the outdoor area.
COMMUNICATIONS TO BE READ: Shipmate Secretary Simms announced all correspondence from
National and Northwest region will be posted on the Read Board and only significant correspondence
will be read. No correspondence read.
OLD BUSINESS: None.
GOOD OF THE ORDER:
1. Associate member representative and RSL (Returning and Services League) liaison Errington
announced the RSL Australian Day raffle. Tickets available at the bar.
2. President Steakley presented a Letter of Appreciation to associate member Van Akkeren
“Dutchie” for doing an outstanding job as Santa Claus at the malnourished kid’s Christmas party.
3. President Steakley presented a Letter of Appreciation to the LAFRA for doing a great job with the
malnourished kid’s Christmas party: over 500 attended.
4. President Steakley presented two LOAs received from the mayor of San Antonio to the FRA and
the LAFRA for supporting San Antonio’s malnourished kids dietary supplement program. President
Steakley attended a Mayor’s Awards ceremony, January 1, 2008, and accepted the LOAs.
5. Twenty year longevity award presented to Shipmate Don Randolph.
6. Ten year longevity award presented to Shipmate Jeff Fuller.
7. Shipmate Sullivan suggested adding a fish fry to the schedule of events for FRAlics 2008 as well
as a chili cook-off.
8. Shipmate Steakley announced a FRAlics 2008 meeting will be held at VFW11447 after the VFW
meeting on Wednesday, January 9, 2008. All encouraged to attend with a special invitation to the LAFRA.
9. 50/50 winner: Shipmate Phillips (P1350.00; total P2700)
