Minutes: General Membership meeting February 1, 2008

The meeting was called to order by President Steakley at 1103.

Fifteen members and two associate members in attendance.

Visitors or VIPs of mention: none.

CONDUCTED OPENING CEREMONIES.

Shipmate president Steakley announced the new format of the FRA preamble in the most recent Naval
Affairs

The Minutes from the General Membership meeting of January 4, 2008 were accepted as posted.

The BOD minutes will be read under New Business.

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Canteen Manager: Bill Moran.  Report given. Accepted as read.

Building and maintenance: Shipmate Brady: NTR.

Hospital & Welfare: Shipmate Alvarez : shipmate O’Briant in hospital at Gordon; visitors welcome.

Patriotism & Americanism: Shipmate Koeppen absent.

Public Affairs:  Shipmate Wetzel absent. Looking for a volunteer to take over as PAO.

Treasurer’s Report: Shipmate Moore. Report given and accepted as read.

Youth Activities: Shipmate Simms: NTR but programs on track

Retired Affairs: Shipmate Gross absent (in hospital).

Membership: Shipmate Simms: Active members: 159 in the alpha roster but several new members have
not yet been added and several deceased members are still carried. Shipmate Steakley discussed the
on-going membership drive and the life membership raffle: $10 per square and we have $60 so far; info
on website.



UNFINISHED AND DEFERRED BUSINESS:

NEW BUSINESS:
1.        BOD minutes read and discussed
2.        Motion Alvarez, second Mishenko to allow $500 total from treasury with individual items to not
exceed P5000 for FRAlics 2008 seed money (signs, shirts, etc.). Approved with one opposed.
3.        Motion Alvarez, second Phillips to fund customer liability insurance through Buddy McGuire at
P9393.75 per year. Approved with one dissent.
4.        Motion Phillips, second Alvarez to provide the secretary with P1000 for secretary’s contingency
fund. Unanimously approved.
5.        Motion Alvarez, second Brady to sponsor a Barrio Beach Bash event for P2500. Unanimously
approved.
6.        Motion Alvarez, second Rogers to support the nomination of Gary Blackburn (Vallejo) as FRA
national vice president. Unanimously approved.

COMMUNICATIONS TO BE READ:  Shipmate Secretary Simms announced all correspondence from
National and Northwest region will be posted on the Read Board and only significant correspondence
will be read. No correspondence read.

OLD BUSINESS: None.

GOOD OF THE ORDER:
1.        Shipmate Alvarez announced a P150,000 funeral insurance program that St Martin’s funeral home
is hosting. Discussions in progress with more information forthcoming. A crematorium is now in
Olongapo.
2.        Superbowl Monday: kitchen will be open early and pulutan will be available from the canteen.
3.        Barrio Beach Bash discussion: VFW11447, host of the Beach Bash, welcomes donations. FRAlics
2008 raffle tickets will be available for sale at the Beach Bash.
4.        LAFRA: Will provide P2000 to sponsor a Beach Bash event as well as the P2500 the FRA will
provide.
5.        LAFRA: will participate in the Beach Bash parade
6.        LAFRA: LAFRA food booth at the Beach Bash will be manned by the LAFRA ladies.
7.        FRAlics 2008: discussed the on-going FRAlics 2008 preparations. Next FRAlics 2008 meeting will
be at the FRA on February 20, 2008, 1000.
8.        50/50 winner: Shipmate Alvarez (P900; total P1800); P500 donated to support Gary’s Kids (San
Antonio malnourished children program). The P900 not awarded to shipmate Alvarez also goes to Gary’s
kids.
