Minutes: General Membership meeting March 7, 2008
The meeting was called to order by President Steakley at 1104.
Sixteen members and two associate members in attendance.
Visitors or VIPs of mention: none.
CONDUCTED OPENING CEREMONIES.
The Minutes from the General Membership meeting of February 1, 2008 were accepted as posted.
The BOD minutes will be read under New Business.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Treasurer’s Report: Shipmate Moore was vacationing on Boracay so secretary Simms read report.
Report given and accepted as read.
Canteen Manager: Bill Moran. Report given. Accepted as read.
Youth Activities: Shipmate Simms: Programs on track but still awaiting word from San Miguel National
High school on continuing the FRA Scholars Program
Patriotism & Americanism: Shipmate Koeppen absent. President Steakley will appoint or solicit
replacement.
Hospital & Welfare: Shipmate Alvarez : non-member retired USN, killed in Iraq will return to Philippines
today. FRA will participate in funeral as well as VFW. Veteran Sandy Saunders in Gordon Hospital—needs
A- blood. Shipmate Alvarez spoke with Sailors on visiting ship USS Essex to get blood but no joy.
Discussed a service organizations (FRA, VFW/Cooties, American Legion and RSL burial detail. Shipmate
“Rooster” Wetzel (former PAO) in hospital. Veteran William Deason (sp?) passed away last night.
Retired Affairs: No replacement for Shipmate Gross yet. US embassy Outreach on April 4 at the Legenda
hotel on SBMA. This is the same day as GMM and the start of FRAlics2008.
Public Affairs: Shipmate Wetzel absent. Looking for a volunteer to take over as PAO.
Building and maintenance: Shipmate Brady: NTR.
Membership: Shipmate Simms: Active members: 158 in the alpha roster but three new members signed
up this past month; several new members have not yet been added and several deceased members are
still carried. Shipmate Steakley discussed the on-going membership drive and the life membership
raffle: $10 per square and we have $60 + P1,200 so far; info on website. Life membership board to be
posted soon—once we figure out what to take down to create wall space.

COMMUNICATIONS TO BE READ: Shipmate Secretary Simms announced all correspondence from
National and Northwest region will be posted on the Read Board and only significant correspondence
will be read. No correspondence read.
OLD BUSINESS: Notes from FRAlics 2008 planning meeting held on March 19, 2008 included here:
1. We need more folks out selling raffle books
2. Mango’s Tom Myers donated P1500 to FRAlics 2008.
3. Over $300 in overseas (State-side) donations received so far.
4. Need all monies collected from raffle tickets turned in at the next FRAlics meeting March 26, 2008,
to get a feel for progress.
5. We need more door prize sponsors.
6. We need to borrow or rent more tables and chairs.
7. The RAO van is available for transportation between Barretto and San Antonio; we pay the driver
and cover fuel.
8. No shwarma vendor.
9. Golf tournament on track.
10. The stage has been built; a coogan or nipa roof will be constructed. Also, the stage needs
decorated which the LAFRA has offered to do.
11. Chili cook-off on track
a. Three teams signed up so far.
b. Shirts (combination chili cook-off and FRAlics 2008) on track
c. Need a chili cook-off banner; FRAlics 2008 banner completed and is flying proudly on the front of
the branch home.
d. Will borrow tents from VFW for chili cook-off and Pepsi will loan tents for the vendors.
e. Need at least 20 more chairs and eight more tables.
f. Chili cook-off trophies to be ordered soon.
g. Need to re-visit Vasco’s on SBMA to see if they will participate again—they won last year.
12. Beauty contest moved to April 5, 2008, after the chili cook-off.
13. Darts tournament on track with Jemma Tubat running—no feel for turn-out.
14. FRAlics2008 supporter badges are complete—just need to sell them now—P50 each.
15. Wall ads: shipmate Mishenko has ensured all 32 wall ad spaces have been spoken for; 25 paid so
far.
16. All FRAlics 2008 food will be prepared by the LAFRA—with the exception of venders. Kitchen is
closed except for pizza for duration of FRAlics 2008.
17. Canteen and the LAFRA will need a lot of change. Anyone who has change to sell, see canteen
manager Moran.
18. Volleyball: President Steakley will see Mango’s Tom Meyers to borrow volleyball stuff.
19. Need a PAO for FRAlics 2008.
20. Next FRAlics 2008 meeting on March 26, 2008, 1000.
GOOD OF THE ORDER:
1. Shipmate Alvarez discussed the service Organization’s (FRA, VFW, AL, RSL) March 23 Easter egg
hunt at branch home. Children of members and associate members welcome.
2. Shipmate Alvarez discussed St Martin’s Funeral Home burial insurance policy. St Martin’s reps on
site to discuss details.
3. Canteen manager Moran discussed the upcoming Pacquiao fight on pay-per-view. Canteen will
provide pulutan (appetizers). March 16, 2008, 0800 start time.
4. Associate member rep Doug Errington discussed the embassy warden program. Evidently, the
Australian Embassy provides more timely information to its citizens.
5. 50/50 winner: Shipmate Randolph (P900; total P1800).
