Minutes: General Membership meeting June 6, 2008.
The meeting was called to order by President Steakley at 1108.
Fourteen members (<10%) and four associate members in attendance.
Visitors or VIPs of mention: past FRA 367 president Clifton Goins present; shipmate Goins lives in Bulacan
(approx four hours away).
CONDUCTED OPENING CEREMONIES.
The Minutes from the General Membership meeting of May 2, 2008 were accepted as posted.
The BOD minutes will be read under New Business.
Initiated three new members: shipmates Dennis Doty, Mike Hazelwood and Wayne Gordon. Welcome
aboard shipmates!
Conducted a Widow’s Medallion ceremony for Lady Gross.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Treasurer’s Report: Shipmate Moore: Report given and accepted as read.
Canteen Manager: Bill Moran. Report given. Accepted as read. P34,864 profit!
Youth Activities: Shipmate Steakley: high school scholars program is on hold for this year. LAFRA has
plans for next school year. LAFRA also taking a round turn on our nutrition program to ensure the most
needy are getting what they need.
Patriotism & Americanism: Shipmate Koeppen absent.
Hospital & Welfare: Shipmate Alvarez: shipmates O’Briant and veteran Saunders are up for home visits
but please call first. Shipmate Clark at home when not doing doctor or hospital stuff. Jack is mostly bed-
ridden with severe back pains: his spirits are good and his daughter and grandsons will be here from the
Sates before the end of this month. Discussed a combined veteran’s organization (FRA, VFW, American
Legion and RSL) funeral detail.
Retired Affairs: Shipmate Alvarez: US embassy Outreach scheduled for July 18, 2008. Because of funding
challenges, future outreaches may be at free locations (FRA, American Legion, etc.)
Public Affairs: Shipmate Wetzel: ready to re-take over as PAO. Shipmate Wetzel is also the VVA (Vietnam
Veterans of America) representative.
Building and maintenance: Shipmate Brady: grounds work in progress.
Membership: Shipmate Simms: Active members: 156 in the alpha roster but several new members do not
reflect yet and several deaths (already reported to national) are still carried.
UNFINISHED AND DEFERRED BUSINESS:
1. NTR
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Shipmate Phillips: VFW 11447 will be moving to a new location. They are looking for donations to
help fund the move and future location renovations. Current VFW will shut down on June 21 and new one
will open on July 4th with a Bang! And barbeque. New location will be in Dream Plaza, Matain, Subic—
about 1km from old one.
2. Motion Phillips, second Alvarez to donate $100.00 to help the VFW11447: money will be used to
build an outdoor bar. Unan approved. FRA367 will be on the plank-owner’s board.
3. Newly initiated Shipmate Doty volunteers as the new branch chaplain—thanks Shipmate!
4. Shipmate Wetzel will hang on to the PAO job.
5. Motion Alvarez, second Phillips to provide P1000 for the president’s contingency fund and P1000
for the secretary’s contingency fund. Unan approved.
COMMUNICATIONS TO BE READ: Shipmate Secretary Simms announced all correspondence from National
and Northwest region will be posted on the Read Board and only significant correspondence will be read.
No correspondence read.
OLD BUSINESS: NTR
GOOD OF THE ORDER:
1. Shipmates Phillips and Alvarez (VFW11447 post commander): donations to help VFW11447 will be
graciously accepted to help fund the move and renovation.
2. Shipmate Brady: discussed the future deli enterprise. Business licenses need first.
3. Shipmate Wetzel: St Jude’s hospital is not accepting TRICARE until they get reimbursed for
outstanding payments. Can still pay up front and do one’s own TRICARE paperwork.
4. Tricare in Philippines discussion: it would be nice to have a legitimate local rep. Lifeline rep in DC
to speak with Tricare folks.
5. Shipmate Wetzel strongly recommends all retirees shop for good outpatient care.
6. Shipmate Simms: Hellships memorial ceremony to be held on US Veteran’s Day Nov 11, 2008 on
SBMA.
7. Shipmate Steakley: VFW11447 Fourth of July raffle tickets on sale at the bar.
8. 50/50 winner: Lady Linda Brady (P1900 total; P950 to winner). P950 to Youth Activities.
