Minutes: General Membership meeting August 1, 2008.
The meeting was called to order by President Steakley at 1102.

CONDUCTED OPENING CEREMONIES.
Initiated two new members - Jerry Minor and Edward Spears. Welcome Aboard
Shipmates!
Conducted Two-Bell Ceremony for Shipmate Jack Clark. Shipmate Clark died at his home
on 13 July 2008.
The Minutes from the General Membership meeting of July 4, 2008, were accepted as
posted.
The BOD minutes of July 30, 2008, will be read under New Business.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Treasurer’s Report: Shipmate Moore absent. Recuperating at home from knee surgery.
Report given by Shipmate Steakley, and accepted as read.
Canteen Manager: Bill Moran. Report given. Accepted as read.
Youth Activities:
Annual Youth Dart Tournament is tentatively planned for 6 Sept 2008. Tournament is for
kids 16 and below, and who are still in school. Ex-Vice-Mayor, Butch Echiverre will
coordinate with LAFRA to host the tournament at our Branch Home. Top two winners will
go to Manila to participate in the National Dart Tournament. Winner of that tournament
will go to World Tournament in England.
Patriotism & Americanism: Shipmate Koeppen: Absent.
Hospital & Welfare: Shipmate Alvarez: No Shipmates are currently in the hospital.
Retired Affairs: Shipmate Alvarez: Nothing to report
Public Affairs: Shipmate Wetzel: Absent. Nothing to report.
Building and maintenance: Roof repairs completed. Total cost of materials and labor was
P3,600.00 Pesos.
Membership: Shipmate Simms: Absent. Shipmate Steakley reported membership is on
the rise. 160 current members, but 3 new members are not yet reported on our Alpha
Roster.
UNFINISHED AND DEFERRED BUSINESS:

NEW BUSINESS: BOD Minutes of 30 July 2008 read:
1. Recommendations: Take P14,300.00 from petty cash to pay for registration fee
and printing of Official Receipt Books for “Quarterdeck Restaurant” and “Quarterdeck
Deli” to Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
2. Discussion: Shipmate Steakley reported that Grand Opening of Restaurant and
Deli will be mid September.
3. Motion by Shipmate Phillips; Second by Shipmate Alvarez.
4. Motion carried unanimously.
COMMUNICATIONS TO BE READ: All correspondence from National and Northwest
region will be posted on the Read Board and only significant correspondence will be
read. No correspondence read.
OLD BUSINESS: NTR
GOOD OF THE ORDER:
1. SLOW DOWN inside compound.! 5kph maximum speed limit.
2. Freezer donated to Branch by Shipmate Jack Clark’s daughter (Joyce).
3. Native covering of outside bar delayed by rain. Covering needs to be dry before
installation. Work will commence as soon as we get a break in the weather.
4. Canteen Manager and Shipmate Steakley will coordinate with either Asia Brewery
or San Miguel Brewery for a new lighted signboard for Quarterdeck Restaurant and
Quarterdeck Deli.
5. Construction of Deli area will be completed by last week in August.
6. Canteen Manager will coordinate with sign painter for various projects associated
with Restaurant and Deli.
7. Shipmate Mishenko upgrading library. FRA will donate several boxes of books to
U.S. Embassy. Embassy donates books to U.S. citizens who are incarcerated in Philippine
jails.
8. Still working on bulletin board for LAFRA.
9. Bingo sponsored by LAFRA will be held on the second Saturday of each month.
10. BBQ chickens will be raffled off by canteen every Wednesday.
11. New drink chips now available. New chips expire on 31 Dec 2008. All future chips
will have expiration date.
12. Australian Vietnam Veteran’s Day (Long Tan Day) will be hosted by FRA on
Monday, 18 August 2008.
13. 50/50 raffle won by Shipmate A.W. Rogers.
