Minutes: General Membership Meeting September 5, 2008.

The meeting was called to order by President Steakley at 1110.

Visitors or VIPs of mention: None

CONDUCTED OPENING CEREMONIES.

Letter from American Legion Post 4, Olongapo City, was read concerning POW/MIA Day
celebrations to be held there on September 19, 2008. FRA367 will perform a two-bell
ceremony. Post 4 raffle tickets were discussed: canteen has 20 books at P250 per book;
canteen will buy whatever books are not sold.

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Canteen Manager: Bill Moran.  Report accepted as read. Canteen had a P9775 loss the
previous month due to several large expenses including the new 32in LCD TV for the
canteen. With continued donations and Mug of the Week raffle, the TV should be paid off in
approx six weeks. Without expenses, canteen would have profited by over P20000.00.

Youth Activities and LAFRA update:
Annual Youth Dart Tournament will be held tomorrow, September 6, 2008, starting at 0900
and is expected to last past 1800; over 60 players are expected. (Note: over 60 showed).
Tournament is for kids 16 and below, and who are still in school.  Ex-Vice-Mayor, Butch
Echiverre will coordinate with LAFRA to host the tournament at our Branch Home. Top two
winners will go to Manila to participate in the National Dart Tournament. Winner of that
tournament will go to World Tournament in England.

Nutrition program is slowly getting on track.  Plan is for two malnourished kids per
barrangay (14 barrangays). LAFRA working on dietary supplemental packages and how to
select the .

LAFRA Ball Room Dancing will be moved to December—dry season. Date TBD. LAFRA
suggested fixing the concrete slab driveway to make it more dance-able.

Patriotism & Americanism: Shipmate Koeppen: Absent.

Hospital & Welfare: Shipmate Alvarez: VFW member in hospital. Shipmate Mike Trimble is
wheel chair bound. Shipmate “Ski” doing better. .

Retired Affairs: Shipmate Steakley: US embassy Outreach schedule for September 29, 2008,
1200-1500 at the Legenda Hotel on SBMA.

Public Affairs:  Shipmate Wetzel: Absent. Nothing to report.

Membership: Shipmate Simms: we are holding our own but still have several deceased
members on the Alfa roster and a couple new ones not.

Treasurer’s Report: Shipmate Moore: report accepted as read. Shipmate Steakley
mentioned that deli money is separate from canteen money (separate from the LAFRA run
kitchen as well). Visitor John Staley (sp?) donated $100 to FRA367; money will go to the
nutrition fund.

Building and maintenance: Shipmate Steakley: large tree in front of branch home spit in half
and fell over taking the power line with it. No injuries or damage to building. The other side
of the tree needs a closer look but is not poised to fall in our direction (the same owner
owns the property the other half may fall on).  This was the same tree we were planning to
cut down. Other trees near the building need pruning.
Horseshoe bar Kubo should be done by tomorrow (Sep 6, 2008).

UNFINISHED AND DEFERRED BUSINESS:

NEW BUSINESS:  BOD Minutes of 03 September 2008 read:

GOOD OF THE ORDER:

1.        Moran: Chili cook-off in La Union VFW in late November. FRA367 is obligated to send
a team since Bali Hai La Union had a team in our last chili cook-off.
2.        Raffle tickets on sale for various veteran’s organizations. Sometimes the number
organizations gets a bit overwhelming but we decided to support organizations that
support us but still to play it by ear. We prefer to support the local veteran’s organizations.
3.        LAFRA mentioned posting flyers announcing their monthly bingo events at VFW11447
and American Legion4.
4.        USMC birthday on November 10, 2008 and will be celebrated at the branch home.
Further info forthcoming.
5.        Veteran’s Day November 11, 2008 to be celebrated in the Subic area. Details
forthcoming. Discussion on this leaned toward celebrating the event in the Subic area vice
going to Clark cemetery as we have done in the past. More discussions next month.
6.        POW/MIA Day celebration at American Legion Post 4. 1100, September 19, 2008.
FRA367 to do a two-bell ceremony.
