Minutes: General Membership meeting October 3, 2008.
The meeting was called to order by President Steakley at 1104.
Visitors or VIPs of mention:
1.John Frey who now lives in Florida but is a long-standing FRA367 member
2. Former vice-mayor Butch Echiverre
CONDUCTED OPENING CEREMONIES.
1. Shipmate John Frey donated $100.00 for the upcoming children’s Christmas party.
Thanks John!
2. Discussed the letter from the PNP (more on this later)
3. Discussed the successful youth dart tournament
4. Discussed the upcoming malnourished kid’s Christmas party.
5. Butch Echiverre announced that FRA367 Sponsored dart player won second in an
adult dart tournament in Manila. The best dart players in the country competed. Photos
taken. Next year, FRA367 will sponsor and provide shirts for the students we sponsor to
the national dart tournament.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Canteen Manager: Bill Moran. Report accepted as read. Canteen had a an overall loss
the previous month due to several large expenses. We would have netted over P16000
without the expenses. All bills paid. Upcoming months should see good business with
more of the local ex-pats in town and the end of rainy season.
Patriotism & Americanism: Shipmate Koeppen: Absent.
Hospital & Welfare: Shipmate Alvarez: NTR
Retired Affairs: Shipmate Steakley: US embassy Outreach may return in November, 2008.
Last outreach very successful.
Public Affairs: Shipmate Wetzel: Absent. Nothing to report but we are still looking for a
replacement PAO.
Membership: Shipmate Simms: we are holding our own but still have several deceased
members on the Alfa roster and a couple new ones not.
Building and maintenance: Shipmate Brady: Outside projects completed, things looking
good.
Youth Activities and LAFRA update: NSTR
Treasurer’s Report: Shipmate Moore: report accepted as read.
UNFINISHED AND DEFERRED BUSINESS:
1. LAFRA quickly discussed the plans for Youth Activities to begin in January 2009.
NEW BUSINESS: BOD Minutes of 01 October 2008 read:
1. Motion Phillips, second Rogers to donate P2000 to the 315th Provincial Mobile
Group of the PNP youth sports program. Approved unanimously.
2. Discussed the robbery, PNP’s involvement of the security ageny’s responsibility.
PNP’s observation is “guard negligence” and the suggested we file charges which
President Steakley did.
3. Looking for a PAO and discussion on getting a digital camera for the branch.
4. Motion Alvarez, second Inskeep to provide P4000 for FRA367’s chili cook-off team
for the LA Union VFW’s annual chili cook-off in La Union, November 29, 2008. Approved
unanimously.
5. 233rd birthday of the US Navy celebration at the VFW11447 October 13, 2008, 1300.
FRA367 will do a two-bell ceremony.
6. Motion Steakley, second Inskeep to provide P1000 for the secretary’s contingency
fund. Approved unanimously.
7. LAFRA update:
a. Children’s Christmas party December 20, 2008 at the branch home. Great success
last year with over 500 kids attending
b. John Frey donated $100.00 to the children’s; Christmas party fund.
c. Ball room dancing on December 13, 2008. The last one was great fun! LAFRA plans
to fix the concrete dance floor to make it more suitable for dancing. More info to follow.
COMMUNICATIONS TO BE READ: All correspondence from National and Northwest region
will be posted on the Read Board and only significant correspondence will be read. No
correspondence read. Letter from the PNP requesting support discussed earlier.
OLD BUSINESS: NTR
GOOD OF THE ORDER:
1. Alvarez: Veteran’s Day raffle tickets from VFW 2485 (Angeles City) at P500 per
book. FRA will take ten books to be sold at the bar; whatever not sold will be purchased
by the canteen.
2. Mishenko: Zambales Doctor’s Clinic Dr Pasqual will volunteer her time to a medical
outreach program for malnourished kids.
3. Frey: for those who are 100% disabled and living in the States, VA will “take care of
everything health maintenance related including dental.” Too bad we cannot get that
caliber of coverage in Philippines.
4. 50/50 raffle won by Lady Randolph (P1800 total). P900 went to the nutrition fund.
