Minutes: General Membership meeting January 2, 2009.
The meeting was called to order by President Steakley at 1106.
Visitors or VIPs of mention: none.
CONDUCTED OPENING CEREMONIES.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Canteen Manager: Bill Moran. Small profit for the month after paying Christmas
bonuses and P1000 for the Beach Bash logo.
Patriotism & Americanism: NTR
Hospital & Welfare: NTR
Retired Affairs: next American embassy outreach is on January 30, 2009, 08-1100 at
the Legenda Hotel on SBMA.
Public Affairs: NTR but still looking for a PAO.
Membership: Shipmate Simms: we are holding our own at approx 160 but still have
several deceased members on the Alfa roster and a couple new ones not yet
listed.
Building and maintenance: Brady: electrical work for deli addition completed; sink
installation and purchase of a display case is in-work Islanders Bar and Deli is still
providing a good weekly service. Business deal with Doug Slade (supplies deli
type items to several businesses in Barretto and Baloy Beach) is also in-work.
Youth Activities: LAFRA: Malnourished children’s support program is still being re-
vamped. LAFRA wants to support elementary students for 2009 and discontinue
the high school students program. The reason for this is most students graduate
elementary school but far less finish high school because of domestic demands.
LAFRA: Kitchen and menu being re-worked. If any customer hhas observations
about the kitchen, good or not, please let LAFRA know through the suggestion
box or in-person.
Treasurer’s Report: Shipmate Moore: report accepted as read. The bank rejected
a check from national because they said it was too old—we have no idea what
their guidelines are on dollar accounts. US dollar banking is difficult here. More to
follow on this but it looks like the secretary will have to send the “old check(s)”
back to national with a letter and request re-issuance.
UNFINISHED AND DEFERRED BUSINESS:
1. Secretary to draft wall ads renewal and solicitation letters—completed.
NEW BUSINESS: BOD Minutes of 31 December read and acted on:
1. Motion Moore, second Reid to provide P1000 to the president for the
President’s Contingency Fund. Approved unanimously.

as FRA National President. Approved unanimously.
5. Kudos to LAFRA Unit 367 for an Outstanding Children’s Christmas party!
6. LAFRA led discussion on maintaining hands-on control of all youth activity
programs we support: money seems to keep disappearing after it is handed over
to the local program POC.
7. VFW11447 Beach bash February 2-4, 2009 on the beach behind Islanders
and Mango’s.
